Women’s Lacrosse Wraps Up Conference Tournament at Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team concluded the 2023 CCIW Women's Lacrosse Tournament with a loss to the Maroons of Chicago on Saturday by a score of 3-19 in the Championship. Clara Jelacic scored twice for Carroll in the loss.
 
The Pioneers (13-4, 5-1 CCIW) struggled early on as Chicago gained an 11-shot advantage in the first quarter. Alicia Van Dale saw 38 shots and made eight saves, including four in the first quarter. Carroll won 13 of 25 draw controls, with eight going to Jelacic. Chicago gained eight free position shots, but only made two of them against Van Dale.
 
 The Pioneers were shutout in the first half of the contest but scored early into the second half with a goal by Jelacic from a Lexi Kaltenberg pass. Chicago took a 15-1 lead going into the fourth. Katrina Hardin and Jelacic scored unassisted goals in the fourth quarter.
 
With her first goal, Clara Jelacic surpassed 300 career goals, becoming the only player in Division III Women's Lacrosse history with 300 career goals and 400 ground balls. Katrina Hardin moved into sole possession of second place in Carroll women's lacrosse history in goals scored in a career with 173.
