Pioneers Win Nail-biter At St. Norbert

De PERE, Wis. - Carroll University built a two-goal lead in the second half Sunday, before holding on to defeat St. Norbert College by a 2-1 margin. The Pioneers also held a 17-9 shot advantage.

Carroll (3-2-0) started the scoring in the 21st minute on Marti Solanellas' scored his team-leading third goal of the season via Penalty Kick. That's where the score would remain until Zane Walters netted his first goal of the season on an assist from Sollanellas in the 48th minute.

St. Norbert (1-3-1) would cut that lead in half in the 61st minute when Joe Meade scored on a curved shot to the top right center of the net from 15-yards out. The Green Knights nearly tied the score in the final seconds, but Carroll Goal Keeper Jesper Johannassen saved the shot to preserve the victory for the Pioneers.

Johannassen recorded three saves on the day, while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes. His counterpart, Nate Jocz also played the entire game, making five saves.

Carroll will be in action again Wednesday when they'll return home to face Loras College. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha.
