WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University men's soccer team lost to Loras College 1-0 in a hard-fought nonconference game at Schneider Stadium on Wednesday night.
It was the second home-field loss of the early season for Carroll, which entered the contest riding the momentum of a confidence-building 2-1 road victory over former Midwest Conference rival St. Norbert College but dropped to 3-3 overall.
Reed Miklavcic scored what proved to be the winning goal on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for Loras, which came into the showdown hovering just outside of the top 25 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III national poll and improved to 4-0-2 overall.
Both teams managed five shots on goal in the physical battle.
Marti Solenalles Vilella generated nine shots for Carroll, which outshot Loras 26-9 (including a 16-5 margin in the second half).
Nico Hinten Llorens contributed six shots with
Josh Gonzaga adding three in the frustrating effort.
Jesper Johannassen registered four saves in playing the entire 90 minutes for the Pioneers.
