DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Carroll University men's soccer team scored two second-half goals but couldn't complete an inspired comeback as it lost to the University of Dubuque 3-2 in a nonconference game at Oyen Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was the second consecutive one-goal loss for Carroll, which dropped to 3-4 overall.
Dubuque, 2-5 overall, scored three unanswered goals in the first half including what became a winning unassisted shot by Michael Poitry in the 42nd minute.
Carroll, which outshot Dubuque by a 19-6 margin (maintaining a 5-4 shot-on-goal advantage) in the contest, trimmed the deficit to 3-1 as
Josh Gonzaga scored on an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute.
The Pioneers' gritty final goal came as
Zane Walters scored off an assist from
David Serra Dizy in the 60th minute.
