Pioneers fall to Illinois Wesleyan in CCIW opener

Gawelski finishes with 10 kills and 17 digs in home-court effort for Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's volleyball team lost to Illinois Wesleyan University 25-21, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin dual meet at Van Male Field House on Wednesday night.
It was the highly anticipated conference opener for Carroll, which came into the showdown having won two of its last three duals but dropped to 3-5 overall.
Kaitlin Gawelski finished with a team-high 10 kills and 17 digs for the Pioneers, who suffered their second four-set loss of the early season. Ashley Konecki followed with seven kills, two service aces and two blocks in the home-court effort.
Katie Jensen contributed six kills, nine digs and two blocks for Carroll, which generated double-digit kills in three sets highlighted with a team-best 14 kills and .225 hitting percentage in its second-set victory.
Rebekah Andreae registered three blocks, Maggie McGough collected 21 digs, Cora Riffle had 16 assists and Lindsey Diep added 14 assists.
Taylor French finished with a meet-high 15 kills, 13 digs and three service aces for Illinois Wesleyan, which improved to 2-5 overall.
