The Carroll University women's tennis team completed its opening weekend of competition with two road duals at Benet Academy Tennis Courts on Saturday, falling to traditional league powerhouse North Central College 9-0 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin opener and defeating Concordia-Chicago in a nonconference matchup 8-1.
Following the busy Labor Day Weekend schedule consisting of four challenging duals in two days, the Pioneers emerged with a 2-2 overall record.
vs. North Central College
North Central, which remained undefeated on the season with a 4-0 record following the statement-making sweep, was powered by the strength of six straight-set victories in the singles flight.
vs. Concordia-Chicago
Natasha Pupovac won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, defeating Ali Wingood of Concordia-Chicago 6-0, 6-0 to help lead Carroll.
The Pioneers yielded two games or less in the three of their six singles victories.
Maya Gaedtke (No. 2),
Erin Horzewski (No. 3),
Gracie Niebler (No. 4),
Rachel Winters (No. 5) and
Ella Anderson (No. 6) each added a singles victory for Carroll.
The No. 1 doubles duo of Pupovac and
Katherine Trifilio contributed an 8-1 victory and the No. 2 tandem of Niebler and Horzewski won by an 8-2 margin to round out the dominant effort.
