DECATUR, Ill. - The Carroll University men's soccer team defeated Millikin University 4-2 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin showdown at Frank M. Lindsay Field on Saturday afternoon.
It was the highly anticipated conference opener for Carroll, which won its second consecutive game to improve to 5-4 overall.
Tied 1-1 at the intermission, the Pioneers responded to the challenge by outscoring the Big Blue 3-1 in the decisive second half.
Marc Gollner scored on an unassisted shot in the 41st minute to tie the game for Carroll, which outshot Millikin 13-11 in the contest (maintaining an 8-5 shot-on-goal advantage).
Marti Solenalles Vilella followed with a goal in the 52nd minute for the Pioneers. Zane Walters scored what became the winning goal off an assist from Solenalles in the 54th minute.
Carroll's final goal came on a shot by David Serra Dizy and assist from Solenalles Vilella in the 62nd minute.
Jason Brunger registered three critical saves in playing the entire 90 minutes to help preserve a victory for the Pioneers.
Millikin dropped to 4-3 overall.
