KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carroll University men's soccer team lost to intra-state rival Carthage College 5-3 in a hard-fought College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin showdown at Art Keller Field on Wednesday night.
It was the first conference loss of the season for Carroll, which entered the contest riding the momentum of back-to-back victories but dropped to 1-1 in the league standings and 5-5 overall.
Tied 2-2 at the intermission, Carthage responded to the challenge by outscoring the Pioneers 3-1 in the decisive second half (including what became the winning goal as Aidan Crowder scored off an assist from Luis Gurdano in the 54th minute).
Crowder contributed two goals for the Firebirds, who outshot Carroll by a 20-6 margin (maintaining a critical 11-3 shot-on-goal advantage).
Nico Hinten Llorens, Marti Solenalles Vilella and
Zane Walters each scored a goal for Carroll, which is 2-2 overall in road games this year. Walters and
Josh Gonzaga each added an assist.
