Big Second Half Lifts Pios Over Big Blue

Decatur, Ill. -- The Carroll University women's soccer opens up CCIW conference play with a win over Millikin today. The Pioneers had a huge second half scoring two unanswered goals, that would eventually allow the Pios to escape with a 2-0 victory.

The Pioneers (6-3) took 12 shots throughout the game with seven of them being on target. Carroll was able to take four corners, while holding 58 percent of the possession throughout the game. 63 percent of that time in the attacking half of the field. Senior, Caitlin Fitzsimons faced seven shots on the night collecting four saves in the process. Grace Tumilty led the way for the group with four shots, two of which were on target, and she was able to capitalize on one of them.

Carroll found themselves down early as the Big Blue scored in the opening seven minutes of the game. This got Carroll going as Seniors Kenzie Blau and Ally Scoma returned two quick shots after going down 0-1, however both were saved. Carroll would continue the pressure for the remainder of the half, but ultimately found themselves down 0-1 at the break.

Coming out of the half, the Pioneers would take four shots in the first five minutes of the half to put a lot of pressure on Millikin. Then in the 56' minute of the game, Tumilty would find the back of the net from an assist from Brielle Ingalsbee to tie the game 1-1. This was the edge the Pioneers needed as just 12 minutes later the Pioneers would earn a corner kick, that Elli Pease would earn an assist on, as Jo Ueland would score a goal of her own. Giving the Pioneers a 2-1 lead in the 68' minute. Carroll took complete control of the game, as the Big Blue would not take a shot for the rest of the game, and Carroll walked away with the win.

Carroll finds themselves back on the road as they travel to University of Chicago to take on the third ranked team in the region on Wednesday, Sept. 27th at 4:30 PM.
