WAUKESHA, Wis. - Not only did Carroll's men's soccer team have to battle a tough Saint John's (Minn.) team Sunday afternoon in the final game of the 2023 Carroll Quad, but the Pioneers also had to battle scorching temperatures that creeped into the mid-90s during the afternoon. In the end, it was Saint John's who came out on top, defeating Carroll 2-0.

Despite the loss, Carroll (1-1) held a 12-11 shot advantage in the contest. Scoring opportunities were hard to come by as the two squads combined for just six shots on goal (4-2 in favor of Saint John's (Minn.). 

Saint John's broke a scoreless tie in the 14th minute when Matt Anderson scored on a Penalty Kick. That would be the score at halftime, before the Johnnies added an insurance goal in the 66th minute when Kaidan Popp found the back of the net.

Carroll's Jesper Johannassen and Saint John's Evan Siefken each played all 90 minutes in goal, with both players recording two saves.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll remain at home to face Illinois Tech. That contest will begin at 7 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis., and can be seen live at https://gopios.com/watch/?Live=148&type=Live
