Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pioneers Continue Winning Streak Behind Triple-Double By Olivia Rangel

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's basketball team torched the nets to the tune of of 60 percent (34-57) shooting, including 50 percent (6-12) from 3-point range in Wednesday night's 94-69 win over Elmhurst, en route to the Pioneers' seventh consecutive victory. Carroll never trailed in the game, outscoring the Blue Jays in the paint, 50-34.

The Pios were paced by junior Olivia Rangel, who recorded her first career triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high 10 assists. That marks the only triple-double by a player in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) this season, and is just the fifth player to achieve that feat on the year. That also gives her 895 career points, leaving her just 105 shy of becoming the 16th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

Emilie Wizner got the Pioneers (12-3, 5-1 CCIW) off on the right note, with a pair of 3-pointers to start the game. They would lead by as many as 11 in the opening quarter. After taking a 13-point lead with three and a half minutes remaining in the half, Elmhurst (7-9, 1-6 CCIW) made things interesting, going on a 13-1 run to cut that lead to a single point in the final minute. Rangel would then hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds to give Carroll a four-point halftime advantage.

The game remained close in the early minutes of the third quarter, before Carroll took control of the contest, extending their lead to double digits in the final minutes of the period. They then closed out the win by outscoring Elmhurst 25-9 in the fourth.

In addition to Rangel's outstanding performance, Wizner finished the game with 25 points in just 24 minutes of action, making 9-of-16 shots from the field and 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Natalie Gricius added 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, making both of her 3-point attempts, while Chloe Halverson was a sparkplug off the bench with 14 points and five rebounds in 22 minutes.

Elmhurst shot 39 percent (28-72) from the field, including 30 percent (6-20) from 3-point range. They were led by Nariyah Smith's 14 points, four rebounds, and three assists as the only player on the team to score in double figures. Payton Schmidt and MC Brown each scored nine points off the bench for the Blue Jays.

Carroll will now try to extend their winning streak to eight games on Saturday when they'll travel to Augustana (Ill.). That game will begin at 5 p.m. in Rock Island, Ill.
