Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pioneers Brave the Elements to Secure Senior Day Victory

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll men's soccer battled CCIW-foe Millikin on Sunday afternoon, earning a 3-1 victory over the Big Blue on a soggy day at Schneider Stadium. The match came as a postponement of Saturday's match, that was called off due to lightning.

Carroll (7-2-4, 3-0-1 CCIW) narrowly out-shot Millikin (7-4-1, 1-2-1 CCIW), taking 15 shots to Millikin's 13. However, Carroll produced eight shots on goal to just three from the Big Blue.

Carroll had the first words of the match, scoring in the seventh minute off the left-foot of Marti Solanelles, his ninth of the season. Sam Dorchester tallied his second assist of the season on the goal. Both teams could not score again as they would go into the locker room with a 1-0 score in the Pioneers' favor.

In the second half, play started quietly, before Philip Haugerud scored his first goal of the season nearly halfway through the second half, on what looked to be a cross that ricocheted off the pipes and found the back of the net. Dorchester was credited with the assist once again. Millikin responded with an immediate goal 45 seconds later to stay within striking distance. Carroll withstood the Millikin attack and with 15 minutes to play, Raphael Rinke tallied his first goal of the season when he blocked a defensive attempt from Millikin to break away for the one-on-one score after some fancy footwork around the box. Once again, Carroll closed the game out and walked out of Schneider with a victory on Senior Day.

Jason Brunger played all 90 minutes in the net for the Pioneers, allowing one goal and tallying two saves. For the Big Blue, Oliwier Holowinski earned the start between the pipes, playing all 90 minutes and allowing three goals while securing five saves.

Carroll, who has remained unblemished both at home and in conference play, returns to the friendly confines of Schneider Stadium looking to extend both streaks, when they host Elmhurst University on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m..
