Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Carroll Secures Most Conference Victories Since 2015

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll men's soccer capped off an unbeaten 5-0-2 home regular season record on Wednesday night, defeating Elmhurst by a score of 3-1. The victory helped Carroll (8-2-4, 4-0-1) remain atop the CCIW standings, holding a slight edge over Wheaton, who has accumulated 12 conference points to Carroll's 13. The victory also came as the fourth conference win for the Pioneers, which is the most conference victories in a single season since 2015, when the institution rejoined the CCIW.

Carroll held a slight edge in shots with a 14-12 advantage, but Elmhurst (5-8-2, 0-5-0 CCIW) had one more shot on goal, with seven to Carroll's six.

Carroll had the first words, by way of an Elmhurst own goal, in the 34th minute of the first half. There would be limited action over the next 30 minutes as neither team found the back of the net. That is, until Sam Dorchester scored his second goal of the season on a smooth right-footed touch, assisted by Josh Gonzaga, that dribbled over the goalie's attempts at a save. Dorchester returned the favor to Gonzaga just under six minutes later as Gonzaga's 57th and 58th point of his career moved him into a tie for ninth in career points in a Carroll uniform. The goal also came as Gonzaga's 24th career goal, which is good for a tie at seventh place in the record books. Elmhurst found the net in the 85th minute, but it was too little, too late, as Carroll closed out their eighth victory of the season.

Jason Brunger got the start for the Pioneers, playing all 90 minutes and registering six saves while allowing the lone goal. For the Bluejays, Niyen Ruffin started and played all 90 minutes, tallying four saves and allowing three goals.

Carroll returns to action on Saturday, October 19th where they hit the road to take on a formidable opponent in the current #9 team in the country, North Park University. Kickoff for the marquee CCIW match will be at 7:30 as a nightcap on a doubleheader with Carroll women's soccer.
