ELMHURST, Ill. – The Carroll Women's Tennis team claimed their first conference victory of the season Tuesday afternoon, defeating CCIW-foe Elmhurst by a score of 7-0.
The Pioneers (2-5 1-4 CCIW) had a dominating performance against Elmhurst (0-8 0-4 CCIW) at all nine lineup positions. In doubles, the Pioneers flashed their power winning at one (6-2), two (6-1), and three (6-3). They secured the doubles point and looked to continue their dominance in singles play.
At one singles,
Natasa Pupovac claimed a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Sophomore Anna Sophia Stone. Both
Makayla Counsell and
Jenna Mohler claimed 6-0, 6-0 victories at five and six singles respectively.
Katherine Trifilio claimed another conference victory by a score of 6-1, 6-1, and
Gracie Niebler did the same, 6-0, 6-1.
Erin Horzewski had a battle on her hands, before ultimately winning a third-set tiebreaker to claim the sweep over the Blue Jays.
Carroll will be back in action for two more CCIW matches this weekend against Millikin on Saturday and Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday.
