Carroll Posts Two Victories On Homecoming Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's tennis team gave alumns something to be proud of this Homecoming Weekend, defeating Millikin 5-2 on Saturday, before duplicating that feat with a 6-1 win against Illinois Wesleyan on Sunday.

Against Millikin, both doubles teams won in dominating fashion. First, Natasa Pupovac and Katherine Trifilio defeated the senior Millikin duo 6-3. Gracie Niebler and Makayla Counsell made quick work of the Big Blue winning 6-0 at the second doubles position. In singles, Erin Horzewski won 6-0 6-0, and Katherine Trifilio defeated her opponent 6-1 6-1. Pioneers won the match 5-2 for their second CCIW victory of the season.

On Sunday, the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan traveled to Waukesha for a morning match against the Pioneers. Carroll started hot winning all three doubles matches 6-3, 6-0, and 7-5. Singles proved to be more of a fight as four of the six matches went into third set or super tiebreakers. At one Natasa Pupovac won after falling down in 6-7, 6-4, and then 10-6 in her super tiebreaker. Both Makayla Counsell and Laurel Nelson won 6-0 in their third sets to clinch to the match at 5 and 6 singles.

The Pioneers improve to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. They will complete their conference season next Sunday in Rock Island, Ill. against Augustana (Ill.).
