WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's soccer team remained atop the CCIW standings Wednesday night with a 1-0 win against Wheaton (IL) to remain undefeated (6-0-0) in the conference. The win also marked the 22nd shutout of Goal Keeper
Caitlin Fitzsimons' stellar career, breaking the school record, which had stood at 21, set by Christina O'Block in 2019.
After a scoreless first half, the two teams played 10 minutes into the second half before the game's only goal.
Brielle Ingalsbee did the honors, finding the back of the net for the fourth time this season, thanks to assists from
Grace Tumilty and
Mari Sagstad.
Carroll also held an 11-6 advantage in shots on the night, including 4-3 in shots on goal. Ranked seventh in the Region, the win marks the Pioneers' fourth shutout in the last five games, as they have outscored opponents 17-3 during their current six-game winning streak.
Fitzsimons made three saves on the night, while playing all 90 minutes for the Pios in goal. Her counterpart, Elizabeth Netz, also played the entire game, making three saves for Wheaton.
The Pioneers will try to keep things rolling on Saturday when they'll travel to Illinois Wesleyan. That game will begin at 1 p.m. in Bloomington, Ill. Carroll can clinch at least a share of the CCIW regular season championship and the top seed in the 2024 CCIW Tournament with a win on Saturday.
