Carroll Wins First CCIW Championship In Program History; Earns Top Seed In Conference Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Carroll's women's soccer team continued its outstanding season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory at Illinois Wesleyan, securing at least a share of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) regular season championship for the first time in program history, while giving them their first conference championship since winning the Midwest Conference in 2011. The win also gives the Pioneers the top seed in the CCIW Tournament, while extending their current winning streak to eight games, which is the program's longest such streak since 2015. Ranked seventh in the region, the Pios are just one win away from completing an undefeated conference season.

Carroll (9-4-2, 7-0-0 CCIW) broke a scoreless tie in Saturday's game less than five minutes before halftime when Elli Pease scored her third goal of the season to give the Pios the lead. They would add an insurance goal in the opening minutes of the second half when Mari Sagstad notched her team-high ninth goal of the season via Penalty Kick. Carroll also held a 21-15 shot advantage, while owning a 12-5 edge in shots on goal.

Caitlin Fitzsimons extended her school record for career shutouts to 23 with her third consecutive shutout and eighth of the season. She recorded four saves in her 90 minutes of work. Her counterpart, Grace Kiewiet, recorded 10 saves while also playing all 90 minutes between the pipes for Illinois Wesleyan (3-11-2, 1-5-1 CCIW).

The Pioneers will attempt to finish off a perfect conference season Monday night when they'll host Millikin University. That game will begin at 6 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
