WAUKESHA, Wis. - Already having clinched at least a share of the 2024 CCIW Championship, the Carroll Women's Soccer team earned that title outright Monday night with a 1-0 win over Millikin University. That completes the program's first perfect conference season (8-0-0) as a member of the CCIW, while giving them the top seed in the 2024 CCIW Tournament.
Millikin (12-3-1, 4-3-0 CCIW) didn't make things easy for the Pioneers (10-4-2, 8-0-0 CCIW), as the two teams were locked in a defensive battle all night. Neither team was able to score until Carroll senior
Grace Tumilty broke the scoreless tie with the night's only goal. Her fourth goal of the season, Tumilty scored on a Free Kick from about 25 yards away, depositing the ball in the upper left corner just over the Goal Keeper's outstretched hands.
Carroll also held a 20-4 shot advantage, while holding an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers have now gone 373 minutes without allowing a goal, as Goal Keeper
Caitlin Fitzsimons recorded her fourth consecutive shutout and ninth of the season, while also extending her school record to 24 career shutouts.
The Pioneers will receive a bye in Saturday's CCIW Quarterfinals, before hosting a CCIW Semifinal game on November 6 at 7 p.m. from Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis. Their opponent will be determined after Saturday's Quarterfinal games. Stay tuned to gopios.com for further updates.
