WHEATON, Ill. - Carroll Volleyball dropped a five-set road match on Wednesday night, losing a CCIW-match to Wheaton (11-12, 1-5 CCIW) in crushing reverse-sweep fashion. Carroll (18-11, 1-4 CCIW). The defeat was the fifth five-set match of the season, with Carroll falling to 2-3 in such matches. There were 29 ties and eleven lead changes in the match, extending for over two and a half hours, ultimately ending in the Firebirds' favor by scores of 25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 23-25, 14-16.
Offensively, Carroll was led by freshman Bronwyn Rowse 23 kills followed by Rebekah Andreae whom posted 10. Payton Depies led the team with 33 assists and tallied three aces. Defensively, Maggie McGough led the way with 24 digs and Andreae and Lizzy Williams both contributed six blocks.
Caroline Capps tallied 23 kills to lead Wheaton (IL), while Grace Autrey led the Thunder with 34 digs and 3 aces. Lacey Higgins contributed 59 assists in the match and Sydney Overweg stuffed three attacks.
The Pioneers will try to rebound on Tuesday, October 29th when they'll travel return to the friendly confines of Van Male Fieldhouse to host Illinois Wesleyan University. The two conference foes will begin at 7 p.m. in Waukesha, Wis.
