Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Carroll men's soccer defeated the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The victory secured the 3-seed in the 2024 CCIW Postseason Tournament, which means they will host the quarterfinal match in the friendly confines of Schneider Stadium on Saturday, November 2. Carroll (9-4-4, 5-2-1 CCIW) narrowly outshot Illinois Wesleyan (9-3-3, 3-3-1 CCIW) 12-10, but held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Both teams were defensive-minded in the first half, with neither team finding the back of the net before entering the locker room at halftime. Carroll started the scoring in the 69th minute, as Sam Dorchester tallied his third goal of the season off a Henry Picard assist. The Pioneers doubled their lead thanks to Josh Gonzaga's seventh goal of the season. The goal was Gonzaga's 25th time in his career celebrating a goal, which moves him into a three-way tie for fifth in the Carroll career goal ranks. The Pioneers added one more insurance goal as Jackson Greear found Dorchester for his second goal of the night in the 85th minute. Dorchester led the team with five shots, three of which forced a save attempt. Jason Brunger got the start at goalie for Carroll, playing the 81 minutes and allowing zero goals and recording two saves. Uriel Garcia closed the game out between the pipes, registering no stats in just over eight minutes of playing time.
Carroll will take the week off to prepare for postseason competition against a CCIW opponent still to be determined. The home match will be the first home postseason competition Carroll has seen since 2011, when they were in the Midwest Conference.
