Pios Finish Fourth At Valpo Bowling Classic

FINAL RESULTS

DYER, Ind. -
Carroll's women's bowling team competed at the Valparaiso Classic over the weekend, finishing fourth out of the seven competing teams.

The first day of competition saw Carroll defeat the host team, NCAA Division-I school Valparaiso, by a score of 901-838. That marked their only victory on the tournament's first day, as the Pios fell to Aurora, University of Indianapolis, and the 16th-ranked team in the country, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Carroll began the tournament's second day with a loss to UW-Whitewater by a score of 964-853. The Pios then lost to both Elmhurst and Aurora, before defeating University of Indianapolis 823-803. They would finish Saturday's competition with a loss to Valparaiso.

One highlight of Carroll's weekend was Sophomore Ava Butt earning her first career top-five All-Tournament Team finish, finishing in fourth place among individuals. Butt rolled an average of 196.2 during the weekend, recording scores of 233, 181, 146, 201, and 220. She also finished with a strike percentage of .491.

Freshmen Samantha Sciortino and Allyson Will also had a good showing, finishing 23rd and 24th, respectively, among individuals. Sciortino was just behind Butt in strike percentage, finishing second on the team with a percentage of .438.

Sunday's competition featured match play, where Carroll began the best-of-seven series against Elmhurst, defeating the Blue Jays in six games. After winning the first game, Elmhurst took the next two, but Carroll finished it out by winning the final three games to earn the victory. Carroll's second opponent of the day was Aurora, which saw Carroll win the first three games of the best-of-seven series. Aurora would get back into things by winning the next two games, but the Pioneers finished it off with a 178-159 score in game six to win the series 4-2. The Pios finished the tournament with a series against Valparaiso, which saw Valpo win in four games.

The Pioneers will now take about a month hiatus from competition, before returning to action on November 23 for the two-day CCIW Conference Invite. That meet will take place at Backyard Bowl in Milan, Ill., and will be hosted by Augustana (IL).
