ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carroll women's soccer team is hitting their stride at just the right time. The Pioneers defeated Augustana (IL) 1-0 Saturday afternoon to earn their fourth consecutive victory, while also remaining undefeated (3-0) atop the CCIW standings.
Despite the close score, Carroll (5-4-2, 3-0-0 CCIW) dominated the shot chart, out-shooting Augie by a 22-4 margin, with 13 of those shots coming on goal.
After a scoreless first half, Carroll scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute when
Mari Sagstad found the back of the net for her team-leading eighth goal of the season, which ranks fifth in the conference.
Ellie Patrickus was credited with the assist on the play.
The win also marks Carroll Goal Keeper
Caitlin Fitzsimons' 20th career shutout, which ranks second in program history, just one shy of the school record. Fitzsimons recorded two saves in her 90 minutes of work. Her counterpart, Sara Schinker finished the game with 12 saves for Augustana (IL).
The Pios will try to keep things rolling on Wednesday when they'll travel to Carthage College. That game will begin at 7 p.m. in Kenosha, Wis.
