Carroll Splits Homecoming Triangular

WAUKESHA, Wis. - It's been 358 days since Carroll volleyball picked up a CCIW victory, but that streak came to an end on Friday night, as Carroll split two matches at a Homecoming home triangular tournament. Carroll (17-5, 1-2 CCIW) defeated CCIW foe Augustana (7-9, 1-2 CCIW) 3-1 before losing the nightcap to University of Dubuque (14-7, 1-0 ARC).

In the two matches combined, Carroll had 98 kills, led by freshman Bronwyn Rowse with 30. Carroll also recorded 16 aces and 14 blocks.

MATCH 1 vs AUGUSTANA (25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18)

After being recognized for 1000th career dig prior to the match, Maggie McGough tallied 23 more digs in the first match. She is now just 16 shy of cracking the top-10 in digs in Carroll history. As a junior, McGough still has at least 12 games in the 2024 season and one full season of eligibility to move up the ranks.

It was all Carroll in the first set as they did not trail after the score was 1-0 in Augustana's favor. Carroll continued momentum in the second set, accumulating multiple mini-runs to put the Pioneers up 2-0. With their backs against the wall, the Vikings fought back, taking the third set to extend the match. The Pioneers put the Vikings to bed, winning the fourth set thanks to a 9-2 run after the score was tied 16-16. Rowse had 16 kills along with four blocks. Payton Depies led the way with 22 assists, while Rebekah Andreae led defensively with five blocks.

MATCH 2 vs DUBUQUE (19-25, 24-26, 25-17,16-25)

Dubuque came off a four set victory over Augustana for the nightcap game against Carroll. Dubuque rode momentum into match two, going up 18-9 in the first set, before closing it out after a 10-6 response from Carroll. Carroll dug their feet in in the second set, going point-for-point with the Spartans for the entire set, before Dubuque was able to close out a tiebreaker with two consecutive points to win 26-24. Carroll buckled down to respond with a 25-17 victory, highlighted by four straight kills from senior Grace Perret, and three consecutive kills by senior Peyton Frost. The Spartans silenced all Pio momentum, closing out the fourth set 25-16. Dubuque started up 6-0 before Carroll rattled off a 6-0 run of their own, but the Spartans slowly inched away to close out the match. Rowse led the Pioneers once again with 14 kills, followed by Perret, who contributed nine. Ashley Miller led with 23 assists and Andreae and Taylor Raley both had a pair of aces to lead the team offensively. Defensively, Kylie Wittnebel led the Pioneers with three blocks and Raley tallied 20 digs to lead the team.

Carroll has a quick turnaround as they travel to Oshkosh, Wis. to take on UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stout in the UW-Oshkosh triangular, with matches beginning at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
