Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#21 Carroll Handles Beloit With Ease

BELOIT, Wis. - The 21st-ranked Carroll women's basketball team was in mid-season form in just the second game of the season Tuesday night, building a 47-6 halftime lead, before defeating Beloit College by a score of 75-32. That is the lowest scoring output allowed by the Pioneers since allowing 31 points to MSOE in their season opener two years ago.

The Pios shot 59 percent (20-34) from the floor, while making 3-of-5 from 3-point range in the opening quarter. They held Beloit to just 21 percent (3-14) shooting in the opening half to build that sizable halftime lead. Carroll forced 43 turnovers in the game, which they turned into 40 points, while committing just 16 miscues of their own. The Pioneers also held a 52-20 advantage in the paint, while outscoring the Buccaneers 18-4 in fast break points.

Beloit (0-2) scored on the game's opening possession, but that was followed by 19 unanswered points by the Pioneers (2-0) to end the quarter. The Pios extended that to 23 consecutive points to start the second period, building a 23-2 lead with nine minutes to play before halftime. They built their largest lead of the half on a three-point play by Olivia Rangel in the final minutes.

Carroll would score the first eight points of the second half to extend that lead to 49, which was the largest lead of the night. Beloit shot 53 percent (10-19) in the second half, but that was not enough to erase the first half deficit.

Rangel led all scorers with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Natlie Palzkill recorded 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, to go along with four steals. Natalie Gricius added 11 points, while Emilie Wizner and Chloe Halverson combined for 17 points and 10 steals.

Beloit was led by Johanna McNair's nine points and eight rebounds. Kaelie Moreno added six points and six boards off the bench, while Hailey Johnson scored four points.

The Pioneers will try to keep things rolling Saturday when they'll host the number four-ranked team in Division-III, UW-Whitewater. That game will begin at 6 p.m. at Van Male Fieldhouse in Waukesha, Wis.
