Carroll Earns Nonconference Victory on Senior Day

Carroll Volleyball (19-13, 1-6 CCIW) earned a Senior Day victory over non-conference foe UW-La Crosse (6-23, 0-6 WIAC), winning a five-set thriller. The victory snapped a four-game losing skid. There were 21 ties and nine lead changes in the match, ultimately ending in the Pioneers' favor by scores of 25-22, 25-7, 22-25, 20-25, 15-4. 

Offensively, senior Peyton Frost led the Pioneer attack with 14 kills. Freshman Ashley Miller led the team with 24 assists. Seniors Rebekah Andreae and Grace Perret and junior Taylor Raley all had two aces in the match. Defensively, Maggie McGough led the way with 23 digs and Andreae led with five total blocks while fellow senior Megan Aalsma contributed three more. 

SET 1  (25-22 Carroll) 

Trailing 20-15, Carroll used a 10-2 run to secure a comeback victory in the first set. Sophomore Kylie Wittnebel had five kills and a .333 in the opener to lead the navy and orange.  

SET 2 (25-7 Carroll) 

Carroll dominated the second frame, finding themselves up 18-1 and 22-4 at points in the match. Bronwyn Rowse led the set with five kills and Payton Depies tallied eight assists. 

SET 3 (25-22 La Crosse) 

In what looked to be a short match, the Eagles fought back to take the victory in the third set. Three different Pios registered three kills in the set, while McGough contributed six digs.  

SET 4 (25-20 La Crosse) 

The Eagles rode the momentum from the third frame to take the fourth set by a score of 25-20. In a senior-laden lineup, Frost led with four kills and two block assists. Aalsma and Perret added two more kills apiece and Andreae tallied two block assists. 

SET 5 (15-4 Carroll) 

Carroll closed the match with a wire-to-wire victory in the final frame. Frost and Rowse had two kills each and Miller had four assists in the frame. McGough also contributed five digs in the condensed frame. 

Carroll closes their 2024 season with a CCIW matchup against North Park on Wednesday, November 6th. Play will begin at 7p.m. inside Van Male Fieldhouse.
