FINAL RESULTS
KENOSHA, Wis. -Â Carroll's men's and women's swim teams finished sixth and fifth, respectively, at the Carthage Mid-Season Classic over the weekend. The Pio men finished with 226 team points, while Carroll's women recorded 405.5, as both squads finished ahead of Illinois Wesleyan for the first time at this meet.
The weekend featured 102 PRs for both of Carroll's swim teams combined, while also breaking four school records. On the men's side,
Edward McConnaha shattered school marks in both the 100 freestyle (46.90) and a 37-year-record in the 200 freestyle (1:41.33), finishing second and first, respectively, in those events.
Josie Peterson added a pair of school records for the women, breaking her own records from last year's CCIW Championships in both the 100 freestyle (with a first-place time of 52.67) and 200 freestyle. She initially broke the 200 record with a time of 1:57.51 in the prelims, before topping that time with a mark of 1:57.36 in the finals.
Other notable finishes include Peterson winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.32, while
Morgan Toupal added an eighth-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:15.33), and ninth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.73).
Kelly Gordon and
Kailee Sitter finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:21.02 and 2:24.07.
In relay competition, Carroll's women's 200 freestyle team of Peterson,
Erin Fixen,
Kendal Richard, and
Alexandria Ostopowicz finished sixth with a time of 1:43.25. Carroll's men's 200 medley relay team of McConnaha,
Thomas Rynne,
Jacob Rossi, and
Gavin Buechel added a ninth-place finish with a time of 1:40.33.
The Pioneers will now have about a one month hiatus from competition, before diving back into things on January 11 in a dual meet against Loras College. That meet will begin at 11 a.m. at Van Male Natatorium in Waukesha, Wis.
