Carroll Drops Home Opener to Concordia-Wisconsin

The Carroll baseball team lost their 2024 home opener Tuesday afternoon, falling to Concordia (Wis.) 10-0 in eight innings in a warm, pleasant non-conference game at Frame Park. Today's date, February 27 marked the earliest game Carroll baseball has hosted in head coach Stein Rear's tenure.

Casey Mir went 2-for-3 with two singles to lead the Pios in a game where hits were hard to come by off the solid pitching staff of CUW. Joey Appino, Anthony Tado, and Nick Angus all contributed one hit to round out Carroll's offensive attack.

The Pioneers held the Falcons scoreless through the first 2.1 innings, then with one out in the top of the third, CUW went on to score five runs, all earned. Concordia built on that lead in four of the remaining five innings, scoring five more times to earn the victory.

The Pioneers utilized four pitchers including starter Nathan Meyers, Joey Rivera, Dylan Eckrote, and Roman Maguire. The group combined for 10 strikeouts, giving up nine hits, while allowing 10 earned runs and walking eight batters.

Nathan Meyers took the loss, throwing 2.2 innings and delivering 31 strikes on 56 pitches. Meyers collected five strikeouts and gave up five earned runs, all of which came in the third inning.

Carroll looks to get back on track as the team returns to action when they host Illinois Tech for a four-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 2.
