PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Carroll baseball team dropped a close battle 2-0 in a defensive battle Friday night, falling to #11 Birmingham Southern College in the nightcap of day five of the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge. The narrow defeat is the fifth-straight loss the Pioneers have suffered. 

Shortstop Leo Matuga was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits on a day where hits were very hard to come by, going 2-for-3 with two singles. Dalen Lamberson and Austin Palmer were the other two Pioneers to tally hits at the plate. Just one day after Carroll had 10 hits in the game, it was a pitching duel as both teams combined for nine hits in the game. 
 
The game was scoreless through three and a half innings, with two total hits for both teams. In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers pushed across one run and followed it up with one more in the bottom of the sixth inning to build the lead 2-0. The score held through the final out. 

  
The Pioneers utilized four pitchers in the defeat including starter Eddie Jaschinski, Roman Maguire, Andy Buskohl, and Connor Nolen. The group combined for eight strikeouts, giving up five hits, while allowing 2 earned runs and walking six batters. Buzzelli tallied five strikeouts to lead the Pioneers on the mound. 
 

Carroll plays their fifth and final game of the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge against Huntingdon College at Noon on Saturday. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, but impending weather forced the reschedule.
