WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's women's tennis team had their final tune-up Monday, before the CCIW Championships, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran by a score of 8-1. The Pioneers won five of the six singles matches, while sweeping the three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-11.
Carroll's number one doubles team of
Maya Gaedtke and
Katherine Trifilio defeated Katelyn Haskell and Ali Schmidt by a score of 8-5, while
Aalaiya Jacklin and
Gracie Niebler were also victorious by an 8-5 score in number two doubles. The Pios' number three doubles team of
Madison Ostrander and
Kaitlin Brandl also won their match, by an 8-1 margin.
In singles play, Trifilio was victorious at the number two flight, 6-0, 6-2, while Ostrander won her third flight match 6-4, 6-4. Brandl had her hands full at number four singles, but came out with the win, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8), while
Makayla Counsell had an easier time at the fifth flight, winning 6-2, 6-1.
Erin Horzewski was also victorious at number six singles by a score of 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (10-3).
The Pioneers will now prepare to compete in the annual CCIW Women's Tennis Championships in Bloomington, Ill., which will take place from April 25-27.
