Carroll Drops Pair of Games To Augustana (IL)

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's softball team lost both games of Sunday's doubleheader against Augustana (IL), losing the first game 3-1, before also dropping game two by a 6-1 margin. The two teams were evenly matched all day, with Augustana recording just three more hits than the Pioneers in the two games combined.

In the day's first game, each team finished with five hits, with Augustana (18-10, 7-3 CCIW) taking the game's first and only lead in the top of the fourth, which saw them break a scoreless tie with a bases-loaded double that cleared the bags. The Vikings took that 3-0 lead into the sixth frame, which saw the Pios (10-20, 4-8 CCIW) get on the board when Avery Sorochan scored from third on a wild pitch. The Vikings would get out of the jam however and retire Carroll in order in the seventh to secure the victory.

Pitcher Riley Pavelka registered her third consecutive strong start, allowing two earned runs on just five hits in a seven-inning complete game, while also striking out five batters. Four of the Pios' five hits came from two players, as Abby Curtis and Kaitlyn Reed each finished with a pair of base knocks.

Game two also saw Augustana jump out to a lead that they would never relinquish. The Vikings plated three runs in the second inning on a bases loaded walk and a two-run double to left center. Carroll scored their lone run in the fourth on an RBI groundout off the bat of Sydney Raddeman.

The Vikings would then put the game away with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, and an insurance run on an RBI single in the sixth.

Carroll's four hits came from four different players, including Curtis, Kiana Johnson, Bridget Rath, and Reagan Goluch, who  recorded her fourth double of the season. Andre Kuhne pitched well in relief, yielding three runs on four hits and striking out six in 4.2 innings of work.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Wednesday when they'll travel to Beloit College. That doubleheader will begin at 3 p.m. at the Strong Stadium Complex in Beloit, Wis.
