DECATUR, Ill. - Carroll's softball team ended their 2024 regular season with a doubleheader split at Millikin University, which entered the season ranked in the NCAA Division-III Top 25. The Pios won the first game via shutout, 2-0, before dropping the nightcap by a score of 11-2 in five innings.
Game one saw Junior
Andrea Kuhne (7-9) put together a dominant performance in the circle, firing seven scoreless innings, while yielding just four hits and striking out five, en route to her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career.
The only run support that Kuhne needed came in the top of the third inning when
Madison Palasz drove in the only two runs of the game on a bases-loaded single up the middle. That would be one of four Carroll hits in the game, with the other three coming from
Abby Curtis,
Kiana Johnson, and
Bridget Rath. Kaitlin Reed was also active, with her ninth stolen base of the season, giving the Pios 61 as a team, which ranks third in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW).
The day's second game was scoreless through two innings, before Millikin (20-14, 8-6 CCIW) took their first lead of the afternoon on a sacrifice bunt. The Big Blue then opened the game up with a nine-run fourth inning, before adding another insurance run in the fifth. Carroll (12-26, 5-11 CCIW) scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fifth, coming on a fielder's choice and RBI single by Palasz, but it was not enough to avoid the split.
Carroll's five hits came from four different players, led by Palasz's 2-for-3 performance at the dish. Millikin recorded 10 hits, with two apiece coming from Emily Kobel, Lanie Chizmark, and Anna Enlow.
