Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Pioneers' Season Ends In CCIW Semifinals

CHICAGO, Ill. - Carroll's women's lacrosse team saw their remarkable 2024 season come to a close Wednesday night with a 21-6 loss to top-seeded and two-time defending CCIW Champion University of Chicago in the Semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament. Chicago also held a 39-21 shot advantage in a game in which they never trailed.

In what was a rematch of last year's CCIW Championship game, Chicago (12-4) scored early and often, outscoring the Pioneers (14-4) by a 7-0 margin in the first quarter of play. CCIW Offensive Player of the Year Lulu Hardy scored four first period goals, while Peyton McGuire added two and Skylar Lienhardt also found the back of the net. The Maroons would add two more goals, before Carroll broke into the scoring column with a goal by freshman phenom First Team All-Conference selection Elizabeth Wang. Chicago then scored the next five goals to take a 14-1 lead into halftime.

Wang would score the first two goals of the second half, as Carroll attempted a comeback, but Chicago would get those two goals back later in the period. Elaina Phaneuf then got into the scoring action for the Pioneers, but McGuire scored again for the Maroons in the final minute of the quarter, giving Chicago a 17-4 advantage after three quarters of play. Wang would add two more goals in the fourth, but it was not enough for the Pios, who finish the season with a single season program-record 14 victories.

Carroll broke several team and individual records this season. With their six goals against Chicago, the Pios surpassed the school record for goals in a season with 245. Wang's five goals gives her 78 for the season, which extends her single season school record. She also broke the team's single season points record, finishing with 86 on the year.

Chicago was led by Hardy's seven goals, while Evelina Swigart and McGuire each added a hat trick with three goals apiece. Hardy also finished with two assists for a total of nine points.

Carroll's Devon Duym and Sydney Everett each played one half at Goal Keeper for the Pioneers, combining to make 11 saves. Chicago Goal Keeper Gabrielle Kiewe played all 60 minutes, saving eight shots.
