Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pios Open 2024 Season With Shutout Victory

WHEATON, Ill. - In their first game of the 2024 season Friday afternoon, the Carroll University Women's Soccer team appeared to be in mid-season form, defeating LeTourneau University 4-0 on day one of the Bob Baptista Invitational, hosted by Wheaton (Ill.) College. The Pioneers also out-shot LeTourneau by a 24-2 margin, including 16-1 in the first half.

Carroll (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the 18th minute when Jo Ueland found Grace Tumilty for the score. Tumilty then assisted on the next goal, which was scored by Mari Sagstad.

Ally Scoma would get into the action after halftime, scoring in the 52nd minute, corralling the ball and scoring off a deflected Free Kick. Sagstad would cap the scoring with her second goal of the game, thanks to an incredible pass by Ueland, who was credited with her second assist of the day.

Caitlin Fitzsimons played all 90 minutes at Goal Keeper for the Pioneers, making one save, while recording her 16th career shutout, which moves her into third place in program history. Kelauna Cruz also played the entire game between the pipes for LeTourneau (0-1), registering six saves.

Carroll will be in action again on Saturday for the second and final day of the Bab Baptista Invitational. The Pioneers will play MSOE at 4:30 p.m. in Wheaton, Ill.
