WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll's women's tennis team dropped a home conference match to Wheaton (IL) College Saturday afternoon.
In number one doubles, the sophomore tandem of
Natasa Pupovac and Kate Trifilio continued their impressive play with a 6-2 victory over Madeline Gentry and Lydia Adams. The Pioneers, however failed to capitalize at two doubles, where
Gracie Niebler and
Makayla Counsell fell 1-6.
Laurel Nelson and
Erin Horzewski also dropped their set for the Pioneers by a 2-6 score. Carroll failed to claim the doubles point and headed into singles down 0-1 despite the effort of Pupovac and Trifilio.
Singles did not go Carroll's way, as Horzewski claimed the lone Pioneer victory at five singles. She defeated Tatum Thurstone in a thrilling set that featured two tiebreakers, 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 10-5. At one singles Pupovac fell 0-6 1-6. Trifilio at two was downed 2-6 2-6. In the third position, Niebler lost 1-6 1-6. Counsell was defeated at four 0-6 2-6. Finally, Nelson was defeated at six 1-6 0-6. Pioneers fell to 1-3 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
Carroll looks to bounce back on Sunday when they'll travel to LaCrosse, Wis., where they'll face UW-LaCrosse at Noon.
