WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll battled fellow Wisconsin foe and CCIW opponent Carthage in a home match Tuesday afternoon, with the Pioneers ultimitely falling by a score of 7-0.
Carroll (1-5 0-4 CCIW) battled the traveling Firebirds of Carthage (2-2 2-2 CCIW) at one doubles, where the Pios' star sophomore duo of Kate Trifilio and
Natasa Pupovac defeated the senior tandem of Sasha Manojlovic and Giovanna Mendes in dominating fashion, 6-1. The Carroll duo continues to put up an impressive resume ahead of this year's ITA tournament in Minnesota. At three doubles
Erin Horzewski and
Laurel Nelson battled Niki Manojlovic and Greta Peterson. Despite taking an early lead the Pioneers fell 3-6.
In singles play, Trifilio faced her doubles opponent Sasha Manojlovic and won her first set 6-2. The Firebird senior fought back winning the second set 6-2, and ultimately Trifilio fell in the tiebreaker 6-10. Other notable matches include
Erin Horzewski fighting hard but falling 3-6 3-6 to Greta Peterson. Pioneers ultimately dropped all six singles matches and lost 0-7.
Carroll's next match is the ITA Tournament this weekend in St. Peter, Minnesota, hosted by Gustuvus Adolphus University.
