DUBUQUE, IA. - The Carroll Men's Soccer team battled Loras College on the road on Saturday night, fighting the Duhawks to a 2-2 draw for the second straight match. The teams were evenly matched on all fronts, with Carroll (3-1-3) taking 17 shots to Loras's (3-3-3) 18, with both teams having eight shots on goal in the match.
Loras came out in attack mode early on, putting the first blemish on the scoreboard in the fifth minute. The two teams got decent looks at the cage, but neither team able to capitalize on points from there, as both teams went into the locker room with a 1-0 Duhawk advantage.
The Pios knotted the game up midway through the second half, with a goal by Marti Solanelles in the 61st minute. The goal was Solanelles' third of the season. Solanelles struck again less than two minutes later, scoring his fourth goal of the season on a 63rd minute penalty kick. In the action-packed 60-70th minutes, Loras found the goal three minutes later to knot the game at two with 24 minutes to play. The attack of both teams was to no avail the rest of the way, as the final buzzer sounded with the scoreboard showing 2-2 and the two teams walking away with their third draw of the season.
Jason Brunger played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Pioneers, allowing two goals and making six saves, including one save in the 73rd minute to keep the score tied. For the Duhawks, Kyle Gillingham played a complete game, allowing two goals and making six saves as well.
Carroll returns home to defend Schneider Stadium against University of Dubuque on Tuesday, September 24 at 7p.m.
