CHICAGO, Ill. – Carroll's Women's Tennis team traveled to North Park University Thursday afternoon for a conference battle.
Despite strong efforts from one and two singles, the Pioneers fell short. After one doubles duo,
Aalaiya Jacklin and
Natasa Pupovac had to retire, Carroll looked to the rest of their lineup to step up. At two doubles
Makayla Counsell and Kate Trifilio were defeated 2-6 by Emi Sand and Alexandra Ristfeldt. Rounding doubles out
Gracie Niebler and
Laurel Nelson lost 2-6. Carroll lost the sole doubles point and started singles play in a 0-1 deficit.
Starting at the top singles spot, Pupovac battled senior Hanna Zethreus. In the first set, Pupovac fell 6-7 3-7 in tiebreak fashion. Zethreus claimed the victory 3-6 in the second set. Trifilio had the longest match, as she faced off against Ristfeldt. Despite her efforts, Trifilio lost 6-7 (4-7) 6-7 (2-7). At three singles, Niebler was defeated by Katarina Carlberg, 3-6, 3-6. Counsell lost to Sand, 2-6, 3-6 at four singles. At five singles, Nelson was defeated by Alexandra Pugachova, 0-6, 0-6. Lastly, Senior
Emily Stern fell to Madeline Starr, 1-6, 2-6.
Carroll will continue their search for their first conference win of the season on Sept. 11 in a home match against Wheaton (IL).
