STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Carroll narrowly fell to UW-Stevens Point Sunday afternoon, losing by a 2-1 margin thanks to a pair of first half goals by UW-Stevens Point. Despite the loss, Carroll held a 34-7 shot advantage, with 13 of the Pios shots coming on goal.
UW-Stevens Point (1-2-2) opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Gabby Dunn scored her second goal of the season on assists from Christa Borchardt and Jessica Camarato. The Pointers would add a second goal just before halftime, courtesey of Lilliana Martinez, who took a pass from Madison Culli for the score.
Carroll (1-3-1) cut that lead in half in the 67th minute on
Mari Sagstad's team-leading fourth goal of the year, but that would be all the scoring the game would see.
Caitlin Fitzsimons played the entire game at Goal Keeper for the Pioneers, recording four saves. Her counterpart, UW-Stevens Point's Erika Panella, also played all 90 minutes, recording 10 saves.
Carroll will continue their seven-game road trip to begin the season on Wednesday when they'll battle UW-Platteville. That game will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Platteville, Wis.
