Pios Record Dominating Road Victory At Augustana (IL)

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Carroll's women's basketball team won their season-best fifth consecutive game Saturday afternoon, defeating conference foe Augustana (IL) by a score of 81-52. That moves the Pioneers within one game of first place in the CCIW standings.

The Pios (11-5, 6-1 CCIW) shot 49 percent (32-66) from the field on the day, including 35 percent (8-23) from 3-point range. Augustana (7-9, 3-4 CCIW) was limited to 39 percent (22-56) shooting, including 15 percent (3-20) from behind the arc. Carroll scored 23 points off 24 Augustana turnovers, while also outscoring the Vikings in the paint by a 42-28 margin.

The first quarter was tightly contested, as the two teams went into the second period tied at 18. The Pioneers then flipped a switch, scoring the first seven points of the quarter, while outscoring the Vikings 22-8 to take a 14-point lead into halftime.

That lead would never dip below double digits for the remainder of the afternoon, with Carroll's largest lead of 29 coming in the final seconds on a 3-pointer by Ciara McMahon. The Pios outscored Augie 21-11 in that final quarter.

Olivia Rangel led the Pios with 17 points, to go along with four steals. Emilie Wizner added 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Chloe Halverson scored 13 points in 15 minutes off the bench, going 5-for-7 from the field, while also recording team-highs of eight rebounds (four offensive) and four assists. Kacy Kratz also chipped in with 11 points, while Katie Barger recorded a game-high six steals.

Augustana was led by Cali Papez's 15 points and seven rebounds. Paige Melton and Carly Stone each added eight points for the Vikings.

Carroll will try to extend their current winning streak on Wednesday when they'll host Elmhurst University at 7 p.m. inside Van Male Fieldhouse in Waukesha, Wis.
