Carroll Falls 2-0 at Elmhurst in CCIW Play

ELMHURST, Ill. - Carroll University women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision on the road to Elmhurst on Wednesday night at Langhorst Field. The Pioneers (3-3-3, 0-2-0 CCIW) were held scoreless despite a strong defensive effort against the Bluejays (9-2-1, 1-1-0).

Elmhurst struck early when Maddie Cummings netted her fourth goal of the season in the 10th minute, finishing an unassisted chance to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Carroll settled in defensively and limited opportunities for the remainder of the half, with goalkeeper Ava Lewandowski making two saves to keep the deficit at one heading into the break.

The Pioneers generated a pair of first-half shots, including a look from Kyra Lou in the 42nd minute, but were unable to beat Elmhurst keeper Erin Fitzharris. Carroll continued to battle in the second half, earning its lone corner kick in the 78th minute and testing Fitzharris with late attempts from Naomy Gonzalez and Carmella Nowak. However, Elmhurst doubled its advantage in the 86th minute when Lauren Nevins scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year to seal the result.

Carroll finished with four shots, three on target, while Elmhurst posted nine shots and seven on frame. Lewandowski and fellow keepers Payton Brose and Nevaeh Darby combined for five saves in the match. Fitzharris earned the win with three stops for the Bluejays.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday at 1pm, hosting a key CCIW matchup versus Augustana at Schneider Stadium.
