WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll women's soccer earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Augustana on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Stadium, improving to 4-3-3 overall and 1-2-0 in CCIW play. The Pioneers controlled possession (67%) and outshot the Vikings 25-3, and ultimately held off Augustana despite a late goal to secure the win.
After dominating the first half with 12 shots and five corner kicks, Carroll broke through in the 44th minute. Freshman Ellie Pierson netted her first collegiate goal off a well-executed sequence, assisted by Alexa Karagiannis and Naomy Gonzalez, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Carroll continued to press in the second half, generating 13 more shots. Senior forward Harlie Seuser doubled the advantage in the 79th minute, finishing a feed from Natalie Namio for her second goal of the season. Augustana responded quickly, as Alyssa Mowry scored unassisted in the 81st minute to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Pioneers held firm defensively to close out the match.
Goalkeeper Nevaeh Darby earned the win without facing a shot on goal, while Augustana's Sara Schinker kept the Vikings competitive with six saves. Pierson and Seuser combined for three shots on target, while Brielle Ingalsbee and Ellie Patrickus added offensive pressure throughout. Carroll finished with a 6-0 edge in corner kicks and a 9-6 advantage in fouls. All in all, the Pioneers had a strong performance throughout the field.
The Pioneers return to action next week looking to build on their first conference win of the season, as they face Carthage back at Schneider Stadium at 7pm on Wednesday.
