Pioneers Fall in Tight Match to North Park

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll University men's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to North Park on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Stadium, falling to 6-7-1 overall and 3-3-0 in CCIW play. The Vikings improved to 8-5-0 (3-3-0 CCIW) with the win.

After a scoreless opening 28 minutes, Carroll struck first in the 30th minute when Iskander Sharipov netted his seventh goal of the season on an unassisted finish, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Carroll generated five first-half shots and carried the advantage into halftime behind a composed defensive effort and an early save from goalkeeper Uriel Garcia.

North Park responded after the break, equalizing in the 59th minute on a goal from Kevin Perez assisted by Mathias Soerum. The Vikings continued to press and found the game-winner in the 82nd minute when Nico Chavez scored unassisted. Carroll pushed for an equalizer late, earning two corner kicks and creating chances through Nico Hinten and Marti Solanelles, but could not convert.

Garcia finished with six saves in goal, keeping Carroll in the match despite North Park's 16-10 edge in shots and 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. The Pioneers recorded three shots on target and five team blocks, while Sharipov led the attack with two attempts and the lone goal.

The loss snaps Carroll's two-match win streak, but the Pioneers remain in the hunt for a top-four spot in the CCIW standings. They return to action Wednesday, Oct. 22, hosting Wheaton at Schneider Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
