Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Pioneers Play Complete Match in Sweep of Wheaton

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll University women's volleyball delivered a dominant performance Friday night, sweeping Wheaton College 3–0 at Van Male Fieldhouse. The Pioneers won by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 26-24, improving to 15-12 overall and 3-3 in CCIW play.

Carroll controlled the match with a balanced attack and stout defense, hitting .265 as a team while holding Wheaton to .193. Bronwyn Rowse led the offense with 15.5 points and 14 kills, hitting .265, while Carly Hicklin added 15 kills at a .462 clip. Audrey Rosenbaum chipped in seven kills and three blocks, and Brooklynn Johnson contributed seven kills and steady serve-receive.

Setter Payton Depies orchestrated the attack with 36 assists, and libero Maggie McGough anchored the back row with 12 digs. Carroll's defense was a difference-maker, posting 10 team blocks, including key stops late in the third set to seal the sweep.

Wheaton was paced by Jordan Benford (13.5 points, 12 kills) and Ashton Major (11 points), but the Thunder couldn't overcome Carroll's efficiency and timely runs, including a key run in the third set that saw Carroll score the final five points to win the match.

This match was pivotal for Carroll, not only because the Pioneers were reverse swept by Wheaton last year in a match that lasted nearly three hours, but also giving them a great shot at making the CCIW Conference Tournament. It was clear from first serve that this team was hungry and ready for the rematch, and they followed through in a thrilling sweep.

Carroll returns to action Wednesday, October 29, as they travel Illinois Wesleyan for another CCIW matchup, with first serve being set for 7 p.m.
