WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll University men's soccer earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday night at Schneider Stadium in a pivotal CCIW matchup. The Pioneers moved to 6-8-2 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play.
The Titans struck first in the 31st minute on an own goal, but Carroll responded before halftime. Marti Solanelles delivered the equalizer in the 41st minute, finishing off a well-placed assist from Nathan Patzer for his fourth goal of the season. Both teams had chances in the second half, but strong defensive play and timely saves kept the score level.
Carroll outshot Illinois Wesleyan 9–10 overall, with Solanelles leading the attack with five shots and two on frame. Alec Behringer added another shot on goal, while goalkeeper Uriel Garcia made two key saves to preserve the draw. The Pioneers also earned three corners and maintained 48% possession in a physical contest that featured three yellow cards.
Illinois Wesleyan had six corners and nine fouls, but Carroll's back line held firm under pressure, especially in the closing minutes when the Titans pushed for a winner.
Ultimately, this win nearly seals the Pioneers' chances at making the CCIW Conference Tournament, with the most likely outcome them traveling to face one of the top few teams in the conference.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, October 28, hosting UW-Whitewater in their last regular season bout in a non-conference test, with kickoff set for 7p.m. at Schneider Stadium
