CHICAGO, Ill. – The Carroll University men's soccer team saw its 2025 season come to a heartbreaking close Wednesday night, falling 1-0 in overtime to North Park in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament quarterfinal at Holmgren Athletic Complex.
After 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Vikings broke through in the 100th minute when Bastian Eikeland finished inside the left post off assists from Nico Chavez and Mans Klint. The golden goal ended a tense defensive battle and sent North Park to the semifinals.
Carroll (6-10-2) opened the match with energy, generating five first-half shots and earning two early corner kicks. Senior Marti Solanelles led the attack with five attempts, including two on frame, while Jackson Greear added another shot. Despite the early pressure, the Pioneers couldn't capitalize and were held without a shot in the second half as North Park seized control.
The Vikings outshot Carroll 24-6 overall and 16-0 after halftime, forcing goalkeeper Uriel Garcia into a standout performance. Garcia recorded eight saves, including several in the closing minutes of regulation and early in overtime, to keep Carroll alive. Defender Nathan Patzer added a key defensive save in the second half.
Carroll's defense absorbed wave after wave of pressure, clearing seven North Park corner kicks and battling through a physical contest that featured four yellow cards. The Pioneers earned one final corner in the 90th minute but couldn't convert before the match moved to extra time.
With the loss, Carroll concludes its season after earning a spot in the CCIW Tournament for the second straight year. The Pioneers showed resilience throughout the campaign and will look to build on that foundation heading into 2026.
