PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Carroll men's basketball delivered a commanding performance Friday night, defeating UW–Superior 96-69 in the opening game of the UW–Platteville Classic at Williams Fieldhouse. The Pioneers improved to 2-1 on the season behind a balanced scoring effort and a dominant second half that sealed the win.
Carroll shot an impressive 58.6 percent from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers, including six after halftime. Leading 43-37 at the break, the Pioneers erupted for 53 points in the second half, stretching the margin to as many as 27. Michael McNabb led the way with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, adding five assists and four rebounds. Peyton McKenna poured in 16 points with four triples, while Lucas Parker and Dennis Estepp each contributed 14 points. Jacob Naber chipped in 10 points and a team-high five assists, and Lamar Smith anchored the glass with seven rebounds and eight points.
Carroll controlled the paint with 42 points inside and converted 16 second-chance points off 12 offensive boards. The Pioneers also pushed the tempo, outscoring the Yellowjackets 13-10 in fast-break opportunities. Defensively, Carroll limited UW–Superior to 38.2 percent shooting and just 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, while forcing 13 turnovers.
The victory showcased Carroll's depth, as the bench combined for 28 points and multiple contributors impacted both ends of the floor. The Pioneers will look to carry that momentum into Saturday's matchup against host UW–Platteville, tipping off at 5 p.m. to close out the tournament.
