CHICAGO, Ill. - Carroll's women's basketball team scorched the nets to the tune of 52 percent (34-65) shooting, including 43 percent (6-14) from 3-point range, en route to a dominating 97-51 victory at North Park Wednesday night. The Pioneers scored more points in the paint (52) than North Park managed all night, while all 11 Pios that appeared in the game finished with at least two points. The win gives Carroll 17 wins for the fourth consecutive season, which is the most consecutive 17-win campaigns in program history.
Carroll (17-7, 12-3 CCIW) trailed for just 20 seconds on the night, as North Park (3-22, 0-16 CCIW) scored the first basket of the contest. The Pios then quickly took control of the game, scoring the next seven points, with five of those coming from
Emilie Wizner. They would take their first double-digit lead of the night just six minutes into the opening quarter on an
Olivia Rangel jumper, en route to a 25-16 lead after the first period. They would outscore the Vikings 17-8 in the second, as the Pios took a 42-24 lead into halftime.
The Pios kept their foot on the gas in the second half, outscoring North Park 26-4 in the third quarter, before coasting to victory. Carroll turned 25 North Park turnovers into 30 points, while also scoring 19 second-chance and 36 fast break points on the night. Carroll's defense held North Park to 38 percent (20-53) shooting.
Rangel led all scorers with 23 points on 11-of-17 shooting in 26 minutes, while adding three rebounds and four assists.
Natalie Palzkill narrowly missed her second career double-double, recording season-highs of 15 points and nine rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench. Wizner added 14 points, while
Natalie Gricius scored 13, leaving her just 21 points shy of becoming the 18th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
North Park was led by Caroline Long's 14 points and five rebounds, while Evelyn Abundes scored nine points and Kathryn Keehn finished with eight.
Carroll will have one final tuneup before next week's CCIW Tournament, as they'll close out their 2024-25 regular season Saturday at Elmhurst. That game will begin at 2 p.m. from R.A. Faganel Hall in Elmhurst, Ill.
