CHICAGO, Ill.. - Carroll hit the road seeking revenge on Tuesday evening, defeating North Park University by a score of 8-0 to split the season series with the Vikings. Carroll (16-17, 7-9 CCIW) had nine hits to North Park's five, with Lane Scott and Anthony Tado nabbing extra bases on doubles. It was a clean game on both sides with North Park (11-19, 7-6 CCIW) committing the lone error in the game.
Scott and Brody Ferko were the two Pioneers with a multi-hit day, both going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI each. Joey Appino, Eddie Synek, Dalen Lamberson, Gabe Lee, and Tado were the other Pio hitters to reach base via a hit, with Tado leading the way with 3 RBIs.
After a quick first couple of innings which saw only one hit across both teams, the Pios were the first to strike, scoring in the third inning off the bat of Lamberson. The Pioneers tacked on insurance runs in each of the next two innings, as a Tado sac-fly in the fourth and RBI single from Ferko in the fifth gave Carroll a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Carroll broke the game open in the seventh inning, plating five runs on two hits while stranding two runners. The inning was highlighted by Tado bouncing a shot over the right field wall for a 2 RBI ground rule double. The damage was too much for the Vikings to overcome as both teams had quiet final at-bats to end the game, as Carroll left Holmgren Field with a vengeful victory.
Three Pioneers took the mound in the defeat, including starter Erik Jaschinski, who saw his first starting action in nearly a month after return from injury. Jaschinski rung up five strikeouts and allowed no runs on just three hits in six innings on the bump. Chayce Schultz contributed two innings and Connor Nolen closed the ninth, helping Jaschinski earn the victory with efficient innings on the mound.
Carroll returns home for another CCIW weekend series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader against North Central College on Saturday. First pitch of game one from Frame Park will be at 1 p.m.
