OSHKOSH, Wis. - Carroll's softball team squared off against one of their toughest opponents of the season Saturday afternoon, dropping both games of a doubleheader to 11th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. The Pios dropped the first game 8-0 in five innings, before losing the nightcap by a score of 8-2.
GAME ONE
UW-Oshkosh (18-2) scored the first runs of the day on a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. They would add four more in the third, with two of those coming on a double to center, before capping the scoring with two runs in the fourth, as both scored on a fielding error.
Carroll (9-11) finished with four hits in the game, led by
MK Dusza's 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
Riley Pavelka (5-4) pitched well, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out five in her five inning complete game.
GAME TWO
In the day's second contest, UW-O again struck first, scoring three times in the bottom of the first on a two-run single and an RBI double. Carroll then got on the board with two runs in the top of the second, scoring on a pair of RBI singles from
Gianna Buske and
Abby Curtis. Oshkosh then smacked a solo home run in the fourth, and scored four more runs in the fifth, including a two-run double to center field to earn the 8-2 victory.
The Pios recorded seven hits in the second game, with a team-high two coming from Buske.
Alyssa Cebreros pitched well in relief, firing 1.2 scoreless innings of two-hit ball.
Carroll will continue a mid-season gauntlet on Wednesday when they'll battle #22 UW-Stevens Point in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. That twinbill will be played at Kilgour Field in Waukesha, Wis.
