WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll baseball took the field at Frame Park for the final time in the 2025 season on Wednesday evening, falling to the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan by a score of 6-3. Carroll (16-21, 7-13 CCIW) had eight hits in the contest, half of which came in a desperation effort in the ninth inning. Illinois Wesleyan (23-13, 13-4 CCIW) had 11 hits on the night, with two extra-base hits off the bat of J.P. Ferraro.
Eddie Synek was the lone Pioneer with a multi-hit day, going 2-for-5 in his plate appearances. Joey Appino, Jimmy Williams, Brody Ferko, Nathan Crick, Austin Palmer, and Leo Matuga were the other Pio hitters to reach base via a hit, with Williams sending his third homer of the season over the left-center field wall in the second inning to give Carroll an early lead.
The Pioneers struck first after a quiet first inning, getting everything out of a pitch on a solo shot. Illinois Wesleyan turned around to regain the lead in the ensuing half inning, plating four runs on four hits to suck the momentum out of the Pioneer dugout.
Both starting pitchers settled in to deliver three efficient innings. The Titans added fuel to the fire in the seventh scoring two runs on two hits to gain a comfortable 6-1 lead. The Pioneers showed grit late, rallying in the ninth with two outs to score two runs on four hits. Lane Scott came to bat with two runners on and connected with a pitch, but did not get enough behind it as he flew out to deep left field to end the game.
Three Pioneers took the mound in the defeat, including starter Erik Jaschinski, who tallied five strikeouts and allowed four earned runs in six innings on the bump. Noah Hoffman came in to relieve the seventh inning, dealing two full innings allowing one hit and sitting down two batters. Senior Connor Nolen closed the ninth, retiring the side in order with one strikeout.
After the regular-season finale against Lawrence University was canceled to rain, Carroll will await the results across the rest of the CCIW over the weekend, gripping to hopes of a postseason berth..
